Pretzel

Pretzel

  • 1 packet Yeast

  • 1 cup Warm Water

  • 1 tbsp Sugar

  • 1 tsp Salt

  • 1 tbsp of Butter, melted

  • 3 cups Flour

  • 2 cups Water

  • 2 tbsp Baking Soda

  • Salt or Everything Bagel Seasoning, for topping

  • 3 tbsp Butter, melted

Preheat oven to 475°F. Line two baking sheets with parchment paper or reusable mats.

Combine yeast with warm water and sugar in the bowl of your stand mixer, fitted with hook attachment, for 5 minutes or until the mixture becomes foamy. Add in salt and 1 tbsp of melted butter.  Slowly add in the flour a cup at a time until combined.  Knead dough for 5 minutes or until pliable.

Form dough into a ball by hand and place in a lightly greased bowl.  Cover with a damp towel and let rest for 15 minutes.

In a medium-sized pot, boil 2 cups of water with 2 tbsp of baking soda. Once the baking soda is mostly dissolved, turn down the heat while you wait for the pretzel dough.

Cut the dough into 8 equal size pieces. Roll each into a long rope, about 19-20 inches long. Shape dough into pretzel shape.  Turn up the heat on the water. Gently place each pretzel into the water mixture for 2 minutes. Carefully pick pretzel up, let the water drain off. Place on the prepared baking sheet.

Sprinkle the pretzels with coarse salt while still wet. Repeat these steps until all 8 pretzels are prepared and on the baking sheets.

Bake pretzels for 8-9 minutes or until golden brown. Immediately from the oven, brush with melted butter.

Enjoy!!
